Back to School | Mum Uniform

WE'VE FINALLY GOT THE KIDS' UNIFORMS SORTED, BUT WHAT ABOUT US?

Is it just me or is understanding what to buy for the school uniform really REALLY hard? So complicated, and more sizing issues than H&M! And the shoe nightmare... we went for clumpy velcro ones with flashing lights. Hopefully we've all got the school uniform shopping sorted now and the long days of soft play, kids' films on repeat and lie-ins will soon be behind us.

I don't know about you but I'm ready to stop eating Magnums now and get back into a routine. For me, it will be my first year of full-time school runs and running a business during school hours. Eek!

The new school term also marks a new season and lots of fab new clothes in the shops. It feels like a new beginning after the excesses of summer. So I've put together three simple looks for Mums on the school run to inspire you. It's time to start thinking about you and your uniform.

1. CLASSIC & COMFORTABLE

This first look is super simple, perfect for those with warm skintones and blonde hair! Long cardigans are great for creating slimming vertical lines, great for H and O shapes. You could add some colour with a scarf or coloured jewellery - or swap out the black handbag for a coloured one.

2. SIMPLY EDGY

The second look is another really simple look with the biker jacket giving it an edge. It is perfect for those with cool skintones and dark hair! This look would be good for all body shapes - finding the perfect length skirt and the perfect length ankle boot is tricky, so I've opted for knee boots. You could easily swap out the skirt for jeans or trousers too. I know you all own a Breton t shirt... I have at least five at the last count.

To bring this look completely up to AW18 date, add a leopard print accent - swap out the bag for a leopard print bag or add a cotton scarf or statement pair of earrings.

3. COLOURFUL CHIC

Anyone who knows me will know that I love a coat - on the school run on a cold day, it's pretty much all anyone sees. So invest now and get loads of wear out of it over Autumn and Winter! I love colour and whilst orange isn't for everyone (avoid it if you have a cool skintone), I'd love to see more colour on the streets. I challenge you to not blend into a sea of black coats! Next time you're at Victoria Station, look at all the black and grey coats - fun game!

If you're not sure about your colours or body shape, you could book a style and colour consultation with me to find out (shameless plug!) or opt for your eye colour - wearing the same colour as your eyes will make them sparkle. Or opt for a universal colour - for example, teal is fabulous on everyone.

This particular coat would be perfect for A shapes (balance out hips with the shoulder details & highlight your waist), the belt tie is great for X and 8 shapes or any shape when worn open.
